“Find the best matches today” leaves several decisions hidden. Today depends on a timezone. Best has no agreed definition. A match may have dozens of markets and prices from different bookmakers. An assistant can produce a fluent answer while investigating a question you never intended to ask.
A better prompt fixes the research boundaries before a tool runs. The following examples are templates, not actual analyses or betting selections.
Name the date and source
Use a calendar date and timezone when the day matters. “Football fixtures dated 15 October 2026 in Europe/London, using the Bet365 source if it is listed for my account” is more specific than “today's football”. The date here is illustrative. It is not a statement that a particular fixture or dataset will be available.
Ask the assistant to confirm the chosen source from the service's list. If it is unavailable, stop and report that fact. Substituting another bookmaker can change both the price and the historical sample. It should be a new decision, not an invisible fallback.
Define the market before its threshold
For my chosen source, examine pre-match, full-time home-win opening odds between 1.80 and 2.10, inclusive. Show the actual column and criteria before running the analysis. Do not substitute closing odds or a qualification market.
This defines four things: timing, period, outcome and interval. “Home odds near 2.00” defines none of them reliably. A tolerance around a reference fixture also differs from a fixed interval. If you mean a fixed interval, write the two boundaries rather than asking for “similar prices”.
Say what may change
For an existing personal filter, add: “Read the filter first, describe its criteria and use a temporary variant for this question. Do not save changes.” That separates an exploratory comparison from editing the research method you will reuse later.
OddsTips MCP separates account reads, personal analyses and filter writes. Ask the assistant to check your current rights instead of assuming a quota from an old guide. A connection can be valid while a requested action is unavailable to that account or permission set.
Request a bounded, auditable answer
Start with ten returned rows. Report the market, date scope, source, unique match count and any missing reference values. Explain whether the result is partial. Do not request further pages unless I ask.
A short table with its limits is easier to inspect than a long answer that silently merges several lists. Ask for returned counts and any server-reported totals separately. An unknown total is not zero, and ten displayed selections need not mean ten different fixtures.
End with the next question
After reading the first result, choose one follow-up: change the date range, inspect a missing field or compare a second source separately. Changing all three at once makes it difficult to explain why the output moved. Keep the original request beside each revision so the analysis remains a sequence of explicit decisions.
